Eulogies Pour In for the Reiners as Autopsy Reports Remain Under Wraps.
More than two weeks after the tragic deaths of esteemed filmmaker Rob Reiner and his partner, photographer Michele Reiner, friends and colleagues persist in remembering the duo.
A Heartfelt Farewell: Cary Elwes Recalls His Director
Posting on Instagram, actor Cary Elwes, who was featured in Reiner's beloved 1987 film *The Princess Bride*, explained he just recently felt able to post publicly about his deep grief.
"Adequate time has gone by that I can at last express my sorrow into words," wrote Elwes, saying that his initial encounter with Reiner made him fall in love. "As we began passing more hours together I knew this was someone I wanted in my life."
The actor uploaded archival material from the film, remarking that he cannot recall "any day without laughter".
"The movie is about love, loyalty and sacrifice. Principles that Rob cherished deeply. That is part of the many reasons he was the perfect person to direct it," Elwes expressed.
He went on to praise Michele Reiner, saying: "Claiming that they were a great team would be an oversimplification. My heart still hurts every time I recall you." He ended with a quote from *The Princess Bride*: "Sure, death cannot stop true love but life is pain without you."
Martin Scorsese Recalls a Friend and Collaborator
In a separate piece, revered director Martin Scorsese paid homage to Reiner, whom he initially encountered in the 1970s.
"From the start, I loved being with Rob. We had a innate rapport for each other. He was very funny and sometimes bitingly funny, but he was never the kind of guy who would dominate the room," Scorsese wrote.
Scorsese mentioned Reiner's acting part in his 2013 film *The Wolf of Wall Street*, playing the father of the lead role.
"His improvisation skills with the best. He was a master at comedy, he worked beautifully with his co-stars, and he comprehended the human predicament of his character," Scorsese wrote.
Legal Developments: Autopsy Reports Restricted
Recently, a Los Angeles judge decided to block the publication of the Reiners' medical examiner's reports, at the request from the local authorities.
A court order placed a restriction on the cases to restrict the public release of "all case details, notes, reports or photos" connected to the active case.
The relevant authority had earlier stated their deaths were the result of homicide, with a public database listing the cause as "wounds from an edged weapon".
Aftermath and Reactions
Following the tragedy, public individuals offered divergent responses.
Former President Donald Trump commented on the matter, making controversial statements that were widely condemned by several commentators.
Podcaster Joe Rogan added his perspective to the critics last week. Talking on his show, Rogan characterized the statements as "disappointing" and suggested they revealed a troubling absence of compassion.
Rogan finished by remarking that an aide could have acted when the decision to comment on the death was made.
