Chiefs Acknowledge Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Player Rashee Rice
The Kansas City Chiefs released a comment on Wednesday evening confirming they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in social media posts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in contact with the NFL.
The team omitted the name of Rice specifically in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Claims Shared on Instagram
Dacoda Nichole Jones, who also did not mention Rice directly, shared a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. Jones stated the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with Rice, whom the Chiefs selected in the 2023 draft.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No official complaints were available in Overland Park, Kansas where the alleged abuse is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season due to an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in multiple people injured. He was given a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after entering a guilty plea to serious offenses.
Statistically, he finished the season with 53 receptions for 571 receiving yards and five touchdowns as the Kansas City went 6-11 and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
